"Problem Reading Smartcard. Please remove & Re-insert"
If your smartcard is working on other computers then this error message in red upon failing to verify with your passcode may indicate a problem with Identity Agent (card verifying software) on your computer.
Please try to repair the software as follows:
- From start menu search "Control panel" and open
- Under the category "Programs" or "Programs and Features" please select "Uninstall a program"
- Click to highlight the programme "Classic Client 6.1 Patch 3 for NHS for 64 bits
- Click "Repair" and wait until the green progress slide completes
- Click to highlight the programme "HSCIC Identity Agent"
- Click "Repair" and wait until the green progress slide completes
- Find Identity Agent on the list of installed programmes from start menu and click once to open subfolder
- Click against the Identity Agent item in subfolder (with blue sim card icon) - this will trigger the message popup "Identity Agent is running".
- Remove & re-insert your smartcard then enter passcode to verify.
Please note the above should work on any Trust desktop PC but is only possible on a trust laptop when connected to MK Corporporate network or while the laptop is connected to MKUH network (VPN) if working from home.
The attached files demonstrate the process in action.
Failing that, please call the IT Service Desk, who can try and run the Cache Clearance Tool.
