Importance of Window Updates
“Keeping PCs secure is the IT Departments job!”
Not quite...
As we celebrate Cyber Security Awareness Month this October, it’s a good reminder that while the IT team works hard behind the scenes to keep systems safe, every member of staff plays a key role in protecting our digital environment as well.
Windows updates often include vital security fixes — without them, systems can become vulnerable to malware or hackers. On average, we block around 200 cyberattacks every day, but we all need to stay alert and do our part to stay ahead of the game.
💡 What you can do to help
- Switch on infrequently used machines at least once a month and leave them running for a day or so, to allow updates to install.
- Bring in your Trust laptop regularly and connect it to the network (with a cable if possible) so it receives the latest security updates.
- Keep mobile devices up to date — always install the latest iOS or Android updates when prompted.
- Return redundant kit (laptops, mobile phones, desk phones, PCs, or monitors) by completing the Redundant IT Equipment Collection
To ensure all IT equipment is fit for purpose, we also offer an equipment replacement scheme. The current equipment which is eligible for upgrades can be found on this Service Request Form: Equipment Replacement Scheme
Together, these small actions make a big difference — not just this October, but all year round.
Cyber security starts with you.
