Sharing SharePoint / OneDrive files / folders with external users
1. Open SharePoint / OneDrive and navigate to the folder or file that you want to share.
2. Select this item by clicking the circle to the left of it, the item is selected when the tick turns white. (see comparison below)
3. Click Share, this button will be on the horizontal bar above the folders and files.
4. When prompted, input the email address of the external / internal user and press either the Tab or Enter button on your keyboard. Add a message if you want, or simply hit the Send button.
When sharing with people outside of the organization, an invitation link to the shared item is sent to this person via email. (see example below)
5. When an external person opens the SharePoint link sent to them, they will be prompted to confirm their email address and then input a verification code. Once they have verified, access will be granted to the specific SharePoint file or folder that you chose to share in Step 1.
