Trust Wi-Fi Options - Which one should you use?

MKUH provides Wi-Fi access for patients, visitors, and staff, free of charge and available 24/7. 🌐
Optimised for digital communication, browsing, streaming services, and handling the large volume of data and simultaneous connections needed in a busy hospital environment, our internet operates at groundbreaking speeds of 5 gigabits per second (Gbps)—about 5 times faster than a high-end household fibre connection. 🚀
Which Wi-Fi network should I use? 🤔
For those paying close attention, you may have noticed a new Wi-Fi option at MKUH! We have phased out MKHospital_Public and replaced it with MKUH-Wi-Fi. Simply search for the new network name and reconnect.
🆕MKUH-Wi-Fi: For personal or Trust mobile devices (excluding laptops) used by staff and patients.
Why change the name?
This rebrand aims to make it clear and straightforward for both patients and staff to know which Wi-Fi network to connect to.
🚫Additionally, we have stopped using the 2.4 GHz frequency across our network. This is because the 2.4 GHz band can be prone to interference, which can affect performance. For example, even household devices like microwaves can disrupt the signal. Moving to a higher-frequency band (5 GHz) improves the overall performance and reliability of our network, especially in a busy hospital environment where many devices rely on Wi-Fi.
📢Note: Older devices that only support 2.4 GHz may not be able to connect to the new MKUH-Wi-Fi network. If your device is older and does not support 5 GHz, you may need to upgrade or use alternative options for internet access.
How many devices can the Wi-Fi support? 📊
On any given day, we see over 10,000 unique devices using the Public Wi-Fi service. We have 750+ Access Points* (APs), each capable of supporting more than 100 devices. However, this number can vary depending on the device capabilities and the specific AP.
The Wi-Fi in our area isn't great—How do we report it? ☹️
Several factors, including microwaves, can affect Wi-Fi performance. To report any issues with the Wi-Fi in your area, please submit a ticket. Provide as much detail as possible about the problem you're experiencing.
I see other Wi-Fi networks available, but I can't connect! 🔎
MKUH has several other Wi-Fi networks that are not available for personal use. Here’s what they are for:
MKUH-CORP: For Trust devices like laptops, Wi-Fi-enabled PCs, and Workstations on Wheels (WoWs).
MKHospital_Clinical: Reserved for clinical equipment only.
MKHospital_Voice: Reserved for Trust Cisco Phones.
MKUH-Mobile: Reserved for Trust Zebra Devices.
*AP (Access Point): A device that enables your wireless gadgets to connect to the internet through Wi-Fi. It extends the network's range and provides internet access in different areas.
