Planned Change - Retirement of Legacy Email Domain : mkhospital.nhs.uk

We’ve successfully retired the mkhospital.nhs.uk website, but we’re not quite finished yet — the email domain still needs your attention.
For many years, we’ve used @mkuh.nhs.uk as our standard email address format, and we’re now in the final stages of retiring the old @mkhospital.nhs.uk domain.
What’s Happening?
Tailored emails have been sent to staff who are still receiving messages at their @mkhospital.nhs.uk address. These messages ask you to notify your contacts — including any automated systems like SBS — to update your email address. If this isn’t done by the 30th September 2025, important messages could be lost.
🔐 Why Are We Making This Change?
We need to secure all our email domains to meet NHS England’s requirements. This is a lengthy and detailed process, and retiring unused or outdated domains is a key part of it. By focusing on a single, secure domain — mkuh.nhs.uk — we can better protect our communications and meet national standards.
What You Need to Do:
✅ Check your inbox for messages from Oliver Chandler, Head of IT Technical Services.
📣 Inform your contacts (including automated systems) to use your updated email address.
✂️ Update your email signature to remove any mention of the old mkhospital.nhs.uk domain.
Correct Formats:
firstname.surname@mkuh.nhs.uk
Our website address is www.mkuh.nhs.uk
🌐 What exactly is a Domain?
Think of a domain like a digital address that helps people find you online — whether it's to visit a website or send you an email.
For websites, a domain is what you type into your browser to go somewhere, like www.mkuh.nhs.uk.
For emails, it’s the part that comes after the @ symbol, like @mkuh.nhs.uk.
Just like a physical address tells someone where to send a letter, a domain tells computers where to send your email or how to reach your website.
Let’s work together to make this transition smooth and avoid any disruption to your communications. Thank you for your support!
