Where and how can I renew my Smartcard Certificates?
NHS Smartcards automatically expire after two years and stop working unless they are updated.
You will be notified via an on-screen message for 90 days prior to your card expiring. To renew your own card before it expires, follow the prompts on screen.
You should be able to renew your certificates from any PC in the Trust, however, if you do encounter issues, please go to the IT Hub (located in the Green Zone, near main stores)
If you fail to update your card by the end of the 90-day warning period, the card will no longer work, in this case, please log a Smartcard Renewal / Repair ticket and attend the IT Hub**, so we can renew the certificates for you.
Unfortunately, the Service Desk is unable to remotely renew certificates.
**If you work in Witan Gate, please log a Smartcard Renewal / Repair ticket and the Service Desk will contact you directly.
