What is Tap-and-Go printing?
🌲Whilst we advocate the use of Tap-and-Go printing, we would encourage staff to think before they print...
Tap-and-Go printing is a secure printing process, where your document is held in a virtual queue for 24 hours, rather than printing out immediately and ending up in the wrong hands. The document(s) are only printed when you are ready and tap your Smartcard on the reader of any Tap-and-Go enabled printer in the Trust or even at Witan Gate. Not only is this secure, its also perfect for home working, where you do not have access to a printer to collect your print outs.
Every computer (PC and Laptop) in the Trust should have the option to print to Tap-and-Go by default.
Pre-requisites
Staff must have a Smartcard with a PUK code registered against it.
What is a PUK Code?
A PUK Code is a one-time code which is linked to your Smartcard to associate your card to your network logon.
You can order a PUK code here : PUK Code For Secure Printing
What happens when I receive the PUK Code?
When your PUK code request has been actioned by the IT Service Desk, you will receive an email with the subject line of "[SafeCom] SafeCom PUK Code". Write down the code and go to the nearest Tap-and-Go enabled printer, tap your badge on the reader and enter the code when prompted.
📢Note: We strongly recommend you remove your Smartcard from any holder, especially the two-sided card holders, as you may inadvertently register the incorrect card.
The readers typically look like fig.1 below.

Your Smartcard will now be registered to use Tap-and-Go printing.
How does Tap-and-Go printing work?
Step 1 - When ready to print, simply chose the Tap-and-Go printer from the list. (screen shots below demonstrate the print menu from word)

Step 2 - Go to printer when ready and tap your Smartcard on the reader.

📢Note: Again, we strongly recommend you remove your Smartcard from any holder, especially the two-sided card holders, when retrieving your print jobs, to prevent the incorrect card being read.
Step 3 - This will pull all your print jobs from the virtual print queue and they will print out as normal.
Step 4 - Go 👍
📢Note - Unfortunately, you cannot use Tap-and-Go printers on WoWs, you will need to request that a specific printer be added by the Service Desk using this form : Add Printer (Automation) or by calling ext. 87000 / 01908 997000.
Printers should not be added manually as they can have a detrimental affect on the network security and stability.
If you receive a new Smartcard, you will need to request a new PUK Code as well.
Please remember to lock your workstations when you leave them unattended. Windows key + L is a quick way to lock your device.
