Disabling devices and why we do it?
When identifying older devices that may require upgrading, we prioritise contacting the staff member assigned to the device. If a device (such as a laptop, mobile phone, iPad, etc.) has changed hands within a department and contacting the current user proves difficult, we may, on rare occasions, resort to temporarily disabling the device. This step ensures compliance and allows us to provide staff with up-to-date equipment.
Disabling a device is always a last resort, and any necessary replacements or rebuilds are promptly provided to minimise any impact on staff productivity.
Note: Staff with laptops should connect them to the trust network at least once a month to ensure critical updates are installed. If a laptop is no longer being used, it should be handed back in; otherwise, it will be removed from the network.
To help us maintain an accurate asset inventory and reduce service disruptions, we encourage staff to use our Service Request form to notify us when devices are reassigned to new team members.
Re-allocate mobile, iPad, laptop, desktop
It's important to note, that when you give a member of staff a new laptop, they need to ensure they log onto the device when at the Trust, so that the laptop can store the logon credentials. Failure to carry out this step, will result in the laptop not working off site.
